My journey in sound and wine leads me to Italy this week, where I’m taking up a “Suoni dal confine” residency in Campania. Over the period of the residency I’ll be working on a multi-sensory piece which will be performed in Tufo on 7th July. The work – which I have provisionally titled Oenosthesia – will be created from the field recordings I’ll be making in the vineyards and wineries of the region with the frequencies of the final piece designed to interact with selected local wines tasted by the audience at specific times during its performance.
It’s an exciting project given my strong personal and professional interests in both areas and could well be the first time a piece of gustatory/sound art has been created that employs both the sounds of wine as well as the wines themselves.
